Pillows

I needed Christmas Pillows to match my house, so I went to work. A lot of these are made from scraps that I had in my craft room! I made the chevron and canvas ones tie pillows because I didn't have as much fabric! I love them, and still have them in my living room!
To make this one, I traced a sign that I liked and cut it out with heat transfer vinyl using my Silhouette. This one I made into an actual pillow, instead of a cover. I stuffed it with a lot of random scraps of stuffing and batting! It cleaned up my craft room a lot!

These pillows, I made for my cousin's boss. They initially wanted me to embroider a blanket, but it was NOT working. So we had to revisit the gift! I think these turned out 100 times better! Each employee chose one word to describe their boss. Then I put them into a word cloud and cut them out of heat transfer vinyl.  I stuck them on to IKEA pillows! IKEA came to town recently, and I LOVE it!

Scrap Quilt

I have a confession. I'm a fabric hoarder. I have a whole bag of just scraps! I am turning into my Grandma Cleo. In fact, when she passed away, I even raided her fabric stash. I needed to do something with my fabric, so I started cutting it into squares. This got tedious real quick, and I stopped after I got a nice pile of squares. Next, I sewed the squares together. It was sad, that it only made about 3 rows. So I started using big pieces and just sewing them together. Then I would sew the strips together. I didn't care if they didn't match. I just had to keep going. I wanted it to be a queen sized quilt.
After 2 days of sewing, I finally had this much finished. It is not perfect, but it is fun, funky, and has lots of memories woven into it.

I measured it and it still wasn't big enough to be a quilt. So I added even more in the other direction.

Then I had this nice big quilt. I found an old top sheet that matched perfectly and decided to use it for the back. The next step was to quilt it. I did lots of research, weighed my options, and finally went into a local quilting store to seek advice.

These were my options:

1. Do it at home, by myself, on my little machine. (FREE + supplies)
2. Take a class to learn how to use their quilting machines, which cost $75. Then I could come in and use the machine for $15 an hour, and it would take me 4-6 hours to finish. ($150 + binding fabric, batting, and thread)
3. Send it off and make them do it all! 1.5 cents per square inch to quilt, plus binding fabric, batting, and thread) $180 all together. 4 weeks to wait for it. -- SOLD!

Handmade Gift Exchange

This is the 3rd time I have participated in the Craftaholics Handmade Gift Exchange. Twice a year, Craftaholics Anonymous hosts a Handmade Gift Exchange for readers and crafters everywhere. Participants make a handmade gift for another crafter with whom they are paired. This is a great way to make a gift.

I made this cute beach bag for my secret crafter, Destiny. I had made one for myself a few weeks before, and loved it. It is reversible, big, and has long straps! The best part is, its a 30 minute craft! I followed these directions from Something Turquoise.

In return, I received these "paper" towels that snap together! These have been on my list to make, but I never got around to it. If you know me, I'm kind of a recycle natzi, so these are a perfect way to go green!

Thanks Destiny!

Chevron Tree Skirt

Every year, I like to switch my tree up.  I have a bunch of colors of ornaments, and like to buy a few new ones every year to make my tree a theme tree.  This year I went for a red and green theme. I have a few tree skirts, but none of them matched my red and green theme. After a trip to Hobby Lobby in search of a tree skirt, I decided, I wanted to make my own.  I bought red chevron duck cloth and then went on a hunt for green pompom trim.  I ended up finding some at Joann's and had a 60% off coupon! So I think the total cost of my tree skirt was less than $20.

I bought a yard of fabric, but I have a tall and skinny tree. You could do this with more if you had a larger tree.

Then I folded it into a square, and used a pencil as a compass with a piece of leftover fabric.

Then I cut up one slit and cut a small circle out. (I wish I would have gone even smaller!)

Next I folded over the cut and center circle and made a nice edge.

Then, I bought 4 yards of pom-pom trim.  (I did a little bit of math finding the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 36 inches)

I sewed that all the way around!

LOVE IT!

Aviator Onesie

These were too cute not to make. With my Silhouette Cameo, I can now make pretty much anything! I found a pair of aviators online, traced them in the Silhouette program, and cut them out! Then I ironed it onto a onesie and sewed around it. The only problem I had, was the "wire" parts of the glasses were very fragile! I accidentally made them too big the first time, so I have 2 pairs of aviators for adults if anyone wants them! :)

Chevron Envelope Pillows

These pillows are super easy to make, they take about 5 minutes, and can totally make over a room!

First, cut the fabric (I used duck cloth) so that it will wrap around the pillow, and still have 4 inches or so on each side.
Fold over the raw edges and sew.
Wrap around pillow for size, and then remove pillow and pin, with an overlap.
Sew the sides of the pillow.

Turn right-side-out

Stick the pillow in the "envelope"

I have also made these, using the same idea! This is especially great if you have ugly pillows that you want to cover up! You can make "new" pillows for about $5!
