iPhone costume

So this is way delayed! Here is my Halloween costume from this year. I used my Silhouette to cut out almost everything. I used the trace tool to make a lot of the apps. I used scraps of fabric and heat transfer vinyl to iron it all on to a black t-shirt. I got a ton of compliments on it and my students LOVED it! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

Jellyfish

I've been saving this for a whole year, because it was such a last minute costume last year! 

Need a quick and easy no-sew costume? This jellyfish took about 10 minutes and was great for me to wear to school!

 Materials: Umbrella from Target, bubble wrap, yarn, curling ribbon, and miss ribbons.

 Cut to a variety of lengths and tie to metal parts of umbrella.

Pumpkin Shirts

I have a tradition of making Halloween shirts for the kiddos before we go to the pumpkin patch. This year only a few were able to go, but we still had a blast! Schaake's Pumpkin Patch in Lawrence is so fun because you get to go in the patch and pick your pumpkins!

Baby Harry Potter

I may have to read Harry Potter after making this cute baby costume! 

The scarf was super easy. I cut rectangles and sewed them together with a zig zag stitch. 

I put red thread on top, yellow on bottom, and stitched them together. 

Then I used my Silhouette to cut out a tie in red, and one in yellow. I cut the stripes and ironed them on to the red tie, and then onto the onesie.

The vest was an adventure... It took me a few tries, but I based it off this tutorial.

It kinda ended up small, so I added a back and made it a real vest.

Flower Pot Costume

It's that time of year! Costume time! I've been making Abbey's girls costumes for 4 years now! This year the big girls wanted to be witches, but we talked them into these adorable flower pots! 

I got all of the materials at WalMart for about $30! 

I drilled a small hole in the bottom and then used the jig saw to cut the bottom out of this plastic tub.

Then I cut apart the bunches of flower and gorilla taped them to the sides.

Then I put ribbon thru a few holes I drilled to make it wearable! 

Vivi was soo excited to try it on!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Costumes-- In action

Here are a few pics of the girls in their costumes! The loved them and kept asking to wear them.  Now they are in the dress up toy box, I'm sure, and they can wear then whenever they want! Millie, the dog, even got in on the action with a Very Hungry Caterpillar costume from Walmart!

Fall Activities

Aren't these mummy juice boxes cute? A mom made them for our Halloween party!

 Last year we wrote stories about Skeletons who had hiccups.  The kids love this creative writing.  This year I was nervous about fitting in the craft aspect, because we have been so busy. Luckily our great art teacher made these name skeletons with them! They turned out so cute!!

 We also made haunted houses and math division word problems.  I think they enjoyed the break from the fast paced, skill work we have been doing!

Fall into Fall similes and metaphors. We went on a little adventure outside to find leaves. Then we wrote 10 descriptive words about what it looked, smelled, and felt like outside. We turned those into similes. They got to then draw and paint their leaves! 

Halloween Throwback Thursday

I never thought that Halloween was my favorite holiday. However, looking thru my costume bucket last night, I realized I have had some pretty great costumes the last few years. 

Growing up, my mom always made my costumes. I have continued that tradition and made all of mine.
